In the run up to exhibition season that hits us every spring and summer, we have to prepare properly. Money is spent on organising the stands, poster art, free things to give away, proper banners to display your company clearly. When putting all this together, if your budget was limitless, you could spend an incredible amount in total once it’s all in. People restrict their spend to what they can afford, and try and meet all the requirements. So where should you pull back. Well, one thing I would say, is that scrimping on the print in the short term could put you out in the long haul.
When you spend your money, it can in the long term to pay to think about the long haul when you buy. Let me explain what I’m talking about. False economy. What I mean by this is very simple. Spending a little more now, could save you a large amount of money in the future.
A simple example of false economy that the famous Captain Humphreys may have made is about rope. Before his maiden voyage, perhaps he may have chosen to save money on rope by buying the cheaper stuff. He would have saved a few pennies, perhaps even a shilling or two. However, when on the high seas in stormy weather if a crucial rope were to break it may mean the actual ship being damaged. The repair to the ship would be in the pounds, and so the Captain’s saving were a false economy. He thought he saved in the short term, but very quickly he ended up having to spend more.
A good modern day example is medical. If you are having something done, say a face lift. Having a face lift is an expensive treatment, so you may think about going abroad to have the work done, it certainly cheaper in some cases to do this. However, if you were to go abroad, and the surgeon was not a very good one, you may end up coming home having saved a few thousand pound but with a bad job. In a situation like this (and to be honest I am quoting this from a cosmetic surgery gone bad show), not only could the post reconstructive surgery cost you in the tens of thousands to fix the mistakes that have already been made, you could end up with a face worse than the one you had in the first place.
Gordon Brown’s making promises that may not be his to make in Afghanistan. He’s pledging that there’ll be support for our troops there for a few years but considering he doesn’t have guaranteed support for his own office for that long, it’s quite a rash promise to make. It is however good to hear that our troops out there aren’t forgotten. Too often the only news we hear about these military personnel is when one of them is killed in action. Usually the war news is concentrated around Iraq and ignores the extreme shortages that the soldiers who are assigned to Afghanistan are enduring.
Although both of these postings give little in the way of creature comforts to our boys and girls serving in the military, Afghanistan is one of the world’s most hostile natural environments to have to live in, especially for those not native to it. Yet it seems the media treats this more as a second >
The current Prime Minister may be giving out promises that he’s not able to keep, or perhaps he’s even committing a new Government to an even greater challenge than the one already facing them, but at least he’s been there and is shining a light on this section of our military personnel.
Things seem good on the work front. Check out the new design on the perlane injections pages
